What is a Hukilau? A Hukilau [hoo kee lau’] is a method of fishing in ancient villages of Hawaii. Villagers would cast a large net into the sea, herding the fish, then slowly pulled it to shore. The feast that followed was meant to emphasize the spirit of family and community, or ‘ohana. The Western Section AUA Hukilau event is a net cast across the meeting to bring us together in camaraderie as lovers of Polynesian hospitality for our own special celebration.
